Job Overview

Microsoft is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join one of its “Azure engineering organisations” within the engineering division to help drive technology for massive cloud computing on its platform. This position will involve developing on a very dispersed system, supporting critical applications and services utilized by customers worldwide.

You’ll be a member of the team, contributing to building software applications that enhance the reliability, performance, monitoring and operations effectiveness of Azure’s infrastructure. You will face challenging engineering issues where you need to develop scalability, fault tolerance, automation, and system availability.

The job is remote and comes with a set of objectives for an engineer who is experienced and enjoys working on big technical problems, and building solutions that will scale at massive scale. You will work with engineers and stakeholders throughout Microsoft and own pivotal infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with software engineering: at least 4 years in the professional world.
  • Experience programming in C, C++, C#, or Java, etc.
  • Knowledge in distributed systems, cloud computing and large scale software architecture.
  • Experience in creating, testing, debugging, and maintain production software.
  • Developed problem-solving abilities relating to complex technical issues and finding practical solutions to these problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and team working.
  • Interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively with limited supervision in a highly-engineered, fast paced environment.
  • Availability to attend operational support and incident-response activities.
  • Competency in successfully passing necessary MS security screening.

Master’s degree is preferred as well as several years software engineering experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build software elements for the mission critical Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • Work out solutions that scale, are reliable and available and perform well.
  • Enforce changes that improve efficiencies and resilience of internal cloud services.
  • Track production systems and diagnosis production problems related to availability or performance.
  • Create tools and features that facilitate operation and management of infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to comprehend technical needs and convert technical needs into solutions.
  • Perform contribution in design conversation, code review, testing, deployment etc.
  • Be responsible for assigned services and contribution to keeping them healthy.
  • Provide support on investigation of incidents and coordination of technical responses in times of failure or degradation of systems.
  • Help teams to develop reliable software through engineering standards, documentation, and processes.
  • Compensation & Work Arrangement

Position is a full-time, remote, and travel less than 25% Software Engineering position. The typical range of base salary for the IC4 level in the United States is about $119,800–$234,700 per year, with the upper limits in certain locations like New York City and San Francisco Bay Area.
