Job Overview
Tailscale is working on a home-grown distributed approach to engineering that is seeking a Software Engineer to help execute on building reliable systems to serve the company’s products and internal needs. It’s a space for an engineer who thrives on solving infrastructure problems, enhancing developer workflows and building reliable services remotely.
You will work with engineering and product teams to create internal tools, enhance the cloud infrastructure and ensure production systems are reliable. The job provides a lot of ownership, and Engineers will be responsible for projects from concept to fruition, monitoring them and making them better.
This position deals with the use of modern cloud technologies, automation, deployment systems and distributed infrastructure. You will also discover and change redundant tasks and processes into automated, scalable, and technical solutions.
Requirements
- At least three years of professional software engineering / infrastructure engineering experience.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Learn working with CI/CD pipelines and automatic deployment process.
- Cloud resource management and understanding of Infrastructure as Code.
- Understanding of monitoring, logging, metrics and tracing.
- Experience in Distributed systems and production environments.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts like IP addresses, routing and connectivity.
- Have hands-on experience of managing cloud services and virtual machines.
- Experience with a production environment is helpful.
- Knowledge of one of the systems-oriented programming languages, e.g., Go, is helpful.
- Troubleshooting skills, and systems performance optimization.
- Excellent writing and speaking abilities.
- Enjoy working alone and being part of a team that is remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test and maintain software and infrastructure infrastructure solutions and services.
- Develop internal engineering tools which aid in better collaboration between teams.
- Monitor and alert for better service reliability and visibility of production services.
- Help develop and maintain automated deployment and release processes.
- Repeat and maintain infrastructure with automation.
- Troubleshoot performance, scalability and reliability problems between systems.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams in projects that need shared infrastructure.
- Automate maintenance, upgrades of services and operations.
- Be willing to join in troubleshooting and incident-response operations as necessary.
- Obtain technical needs from internal stakeholders and convert them into solutions.
- Maintain a systems documentation, process and technical notes for future teams to use.

The salaries listed are the base salary range for eligible hires located in the United States with the salary amount dependent upon experience, skills and other factors.
