Middle School Special Education Teacher

Stride K12 partner school Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy offers Full-Time Middle School Special Education Teacher roles to support students for an interactive, online learning experience.

The virtual hourly position will be available to qualified applicants from around the country, including all 50 states and D.C. The successful candidate will work with the middle school student, instructing and assisting them in their academics and offering instruction tailored to each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

The teacher will be the key person to assist students with special needs with reaching their educational objectives and maintain the necessary special education services and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will deliver synchronous and asynchronous, online, engaging Middle School Special Education Teaching. Duties include writing and revising appropriate IEPs, tracking student progress, creating progress reports and attending IEP meetings annually.
  • Parents, learning coaches, teachers, and related service providers will be contacted frequently to make sure that a student is appropriately supported and accommodated. There is also an expectation for the position to adapt lessons and assessments based on student needs, review academic data and apply its findings to enhance teaching and learning.
  • The teacher will be expected to keep current student records, assist in the success of students in general education classrooms and give a positive and inclusive virtual environment for students. Excellent communication, organizational, technology and time-management abilities are must-haves.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree, be an active state teacher’s license holder, and be able to complete a required background check.
  • Michigan Teaching Certification is required, along with a Special Education endorsement. Experience in teaching in the middle grades, online learning or assisting students and families with technology is preferred.
  • The candidate must also be familiar with information technology including the use of Microsoft Office applications, learning platforms online and new education technologies.

Salary and Benefits

  • This is a full-time remote role that will pay around $51,000 annually with bonus potential. The compensation range expected for the position could be contingent upon qualifications, experience, education, and other aspects of the job.
